(b) and (c) We compared the levels of Vhl and Upf1 transcripts in flies that were heterozygous for Vhl nonsense alleles and for Upf1D45B. No increase of Vhl transcript in transgenic UAS:Vhln2 line was observed under the inhibition of NMD pathway whereas the UAS:Vhln1 transgenic line showed a 1.8 accumulation of nonsense-containing Vhl mRNA. The experiment was repeated three times.
