Maternal-Zygotic Epistasis and the Evolution of Genetic Diseases

Figure 1

The evolution of genetic diseases in the absence of epistasis. The simulations track the evolution of each allele depending on its pattern of inheritance: 𝜅 , additive effect at a maternal effect locus; 𝐷 M , dominance effect at a maternal effect locus; 𝜙 , additive effect at a zygotic effect locus; 𝐷 O , dominance effect at a zygotic effect locus. Purifying selection is assumed to be 0 . 1 in all cases.
