Synthetic gene AND gate. The input signal 𝑢₁ leads to the transcription of T7 polymerase gene, containing an early stop codon in the coding sequences that block translation. The input signal 𝑢₂ leads to the synthesis of a suppressor tRNA, which prevents the premature termination and enables the translation of polymerase. When both of these inputs are present, the functional T7 RNA polymerase leads to the synthesis of the output signal, the reporter protein GFP.
