RUNX3 acts as a coactivator for p53 in response to DNA damage. In response to DNA damage, RUNX3 collaborates with activated form of ATM and induces phosphorylation of p53 at Ser-15. Phosphorylated form of p53 transactivates proapoptotic BAX and PUMA.
