Genistein Attenuates Vascular Endothelial Impairment in Ovariectomized Hyperhomocysteinemic Rats

Alterations of plasma 17β-E₂ and Hcy levels after 12 wk different treatment. (a) Plasma 17β-E₂ levels. Ovariectomy induced a significant decrease of plasma 17β-E₂; supplementation with genistein for 12 wk had no significant effect on it. (b) Plasma Hcy levels. 2.5% Met diet for 12 wk induced a significant increase in plasma Hcy levels, and ovariectomy could further enhance the increase of Hcy. Genistein supplementation could significantly lower the elevated Hcy levels.
