Percent response for MTT is calculated as 100%-percent control and for IL-8 as percent control-100% so that an adverse response from each assay is plotted as a positive value and a beneficial response is plotted as a negative value, with zero being no change from the control value. Median values are presented with error bars representing the 25th and 75th percentiles of three replicates for the control and each diameter exposure, except for the 50 nm exposure, for which only two valid replicates were obtained.
