Circulating tumor cell frequency in sodium bicarbonate-reated and untreated mice. Tumor bearing mice were maintained on oral sodium bicarbonate (200 mM) or water at time of tumor inoculation. Tumors were allowed to grow to an average of 1,800 mm3 in volume (approximately 9 weeks) before testing blood for CTCs. MDA-MB-231-GFP tumor cells were counted by flow cytometry analysis. There were significantly fewer CTCs in bicarbonate-treated mice compared to untreated mice (* ).
