Figure 5: Lipid peroxidation (TBARS, thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) and protein oxidation (carbonyl groups after derivatization of proteins with dinitrophenylhydrazine) in A549 cells were determined after (0.5% O2) hypoxia exposure for 48 h by spectrophotometric measurement. A significant increase in both lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation was observed in cells exposed to hypoxia and such changes were attenuated in hypoxic cells treated with Cordyceps sinensis extract.
