Protective Effects of Cilastatin against Vancomycin-Induced Nephrotoxicity
Cilastatin preserves long-term recovery of vancomycin-treated proximal tubular epithelial cells (RPTECs). (a) RPTECs were incubated with vancomycin 3 and 6 mg/mL in the presence or absence of 200 μg/mL cilastatin for 24 hours. The number of colony-forming units was determined by staining with crystal violet after 7 days. (b) Quantification of crystal violet staining. Data are expressed as mean SEM of three separate experiments. versus control and control plus cilastatin, versus the same data without cilastatin.
