Schematic of structure of the OC. The OC contains two types of sensory cells, that is, inner hair cells (IHCs) and outer hair cells (OHCs). The tectorial membrane (TM) is an extracellular matrix and covers the OC. The BM is located beneath the OC, which is composed of the fibrous layer and the hyaline matrix. Scale bar equals 50 μm.
