FBS or BSA Inhibits EGCG Induced Cell Death through Covalent Binding and the Reduction of Intracellular ROS Production

EGCG cytotoxicity was reduced by FBS/BSA. (a) HepG2 cells were cultured in serum-free medium or in the medium with 10% FBS or 10 mg/mL BSA for 1 hr and then treated along with 60 μM EGCG for 24 hrs with the presence of BSA or FBS. The cell viability was determined by Hoechst-PI double staining (, mean ± SD). comparing to the group without serum (Student’s -test, ). (b) HepG2 cells were cultured in the medium with different concentrations of BSA for 1 hr and then treated along with 60 μM EGCG for 24 hrs with the presence of BSA. The cell viability was determined by Hoechst-PI double staining (, mean ± SD).
