Tempol, a Superoxide Dismutase Mimetic Agent, Inhibits Superoxide Anion-Induced Inflammatory Pain in Mice

Tempol inhibits KO2-induced oxidative stress in the paw skin and spinal cord. Mice were treated with tempol (100 mg/kg) or vehicle 40 min before KO2 intraplantar injection. Paw skin and spinal cord samples were collected 3 h after KO2 injection to evaluate mRNA expression ((a) and (b)) and NBT reduction (superoxide anion production assay, (c) and (d)) by qPCR and colorimetric assay, respectively. Results were normalized using GAPDH as gene control and expressed as means ± SEM ( per group per experiment, representative of two separate experiments) [ versus saline; versus KO2 + vehicle (one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s -test)].
