Macrophage Depletion Improves Endothelial Insulin Resistance and Protects against Cardiovascular Injury in Salt-Sensitive Hypertension

Figure 1

Effects of liposome-encapsulated clodronate (LEC) treatment on systolic blood pressure (SBP, a), the distributions of leukocytes (b), and cardiac CD68 expression (c, d) in hypertensive DS rats. The representative images of CD68 expression in the heart assessed by immunohistochemistry (c); quantitative assessment of CD68 expression (d). NS: the rats fed a normal salt diet (0.5% NaCl); HS: the rats fed a high salt diet (4% NaCl); HS/LEC: the rats treated with HS plus LEC. The section incubated with IgG without a primary antibody was used as a negative control. Statistical comparisons were performed by one-way (d) and two-way (a) ANOVA followed by the Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons between groups, and Student’s test (b). All data were expressed as . , vs. NS group, # vs. HS group.
