Bioremediation of Industrial and Municipal Toxic Wastes

Call for Papers

The field of bioremediation has emerged as a strong tool for management of industrial and municipal toxic waste since almost three decades. The emerging of this field was linked to the booming of biotechnology, particularly after the breakthroughs in genetic engineering and advanced biotechnology applications. Microorganisms and plant play the major role in the widespread utilization of the bioremediation for combating the toxic hazardous wastes in the wastewaters discharged in industrial and municipal effluents. The bioremediation is still shaping up as strong field targeting the toxic wastes to alleviate the toxic stress endangering the environment.

The aim of this special issue is to shed light on the successful application of the bioremediation and to stress the need for more R&D efforts to employ this field of biotechnology for prosperity of human life.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Microbial and fungal bioremediation of industrial and municipal toxic wastes
  • Nanotechnology-based bioremediation approaches
  • Speeding bioremediation by biostimulation approach
  • Enhancing the bioremediation by genetic engineering and advanced biotechnology applications

  • Bioaugmentation to enhance bioremediation of recalcitrant organic wastes
  • Phytoremediation of heavy metals
