Diabetic Retinopathy: Mechanism, Diagnosis, Prevention, and Treatment

Description

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major leading cause of blindness worldwide. It is characterized by neurovascular injury which is thought to start much earlier than the onset of decreased visual acuity. Improved understanding of the early cellular and molecular mechanisms of this neurovascular injury will depend upon the development of experimental animal models and novel approaches to characterize these clinical conditions. New advances in this field will provide better care to patients at an earlier stage prior to vision deterioration.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will further our understanding of the molecular pathology underlying retinal neurovascular injury associated with DR and the development of strategies to diagnose and treat this condition. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Role of inflammation in the neurovascular injury during DR
  • Stem cells as potential therapy for DR
  • Latest technologies for clinical evaluation, such as new imaging tools
  • Biomarkers in DR
  • Recent advances in ocular drug delivery
  • Study models of diabetic retinopathy
  • Novel therapeutic strategies/mechanisms

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/bmri/ophthalmology/diret/ according to the following timetable:
