Integrated Role of Nonpharmacological Interventions for Rehabilitation of Individuals with Musculoskeletal Disorders
Description
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are undesirable multifactorial clinical conditions affecting different parts of the body and are the leading cause of years lived with disability in the world among the working age population, the elderly, and in specific contexts, such as sports. Although not fatal, these conditions have a high prevalence and have a significant impact on daily living activities, limiting and restricting the participation of individuals and affecting both the individuals and society. In addition, individuals with several diseases, like spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, and others, are more prone to develop MSDs. Considering that the prevalence of these conditions is expected to increase in coming years due to ageing, rising levels of obesity, and physical inactivity, there is a clear demand in research focusing on the rehabilitation of MSDs.
This special issue welcomes original research and review articles and aims to provide a multidisciplinary discussion forum, covering all rehabilitation professions, regarding the integrated role of nonpharmacological interventions to reduce the burden of individuals living with MSDs. Nonpharmacological interventions covered will focus on education, nutrition, and supplementation of nutraceuticals, physical activity, psychotherapy, manual therapy, noninvasive stimulation, and complementary approaches, such as acupuncture.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Integrated role of nonpharmacological rehabilitation interventions for musculoskeletal disorders in the elderly
- Integrated role of nonpharmacological rehabilitation interventions for musculoskeletal disorders in sports
- Integrated role of nonpharmacological rehabilitation interventions for musculoskeletal disorders in specific populations (e.g., pregnant women and cancer patients)
