Sepsis: Pathogenesis, Biomarkers, and Treatment

Description

Sepsis is an infection-initiated systemic inflammation syndrome, and it is estimated that ~18 million cases occur annually worldwide. Despite advances in intensive care and supporting technology, the mortality rates of sepsis still range from 15% to 80%, reminding scientists and clinicians that it is still a major challenge. The key to win the “Campaign” to sepsis is the improved understanding of pathogenesis, epidemiological characteristics, novel therapies, and biomarkers for sepsis.

We invite investigators to contribute original research and review articles that seek to investigate the pathogenesis and to introduce novel biomarkers as well as new interventional strategies of sepsis. We are particularly interested in articles describing the host immune response to sepsis, as well as searching the biomarkers and treatment based on immunological findings. And the studies on epidemiology of nosocomial infection initiated sepsis will also be of great interest. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in pathogenesis of sepsis
  • Resent developments on host immune response in the pathogenesis of sepsis
  • Epidemiology of nosocomial infection initiated sepsis
  • Recent advances in biomarkers to early define sepsis
  • Novel immunological biomarkers of sepsis
  • Advances in novel interventional strategies of sepsis
  • Novel immunological therapies of sepsis

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/bmri/guidelines/.
