Trends and Future of Hearing Aid Implantation and Implant Technology

Call for Papers

Advances in technology have always had impact on the state-of-the-art in surgery. Lately, novel approaches for image acquisition, image and signal processing, image-guidance, robotics, and sensor technology have contributed to this evolution. In particular in the domain of hearing aid implantation, the combination of modern surgical approaches and recent developments in the implant technology is contributing to fundamental changes. Implant miniaturization and minimally invasive surgical implantation procedures among others will contribute to this change.

The objective of this special issue is to bring together researchers, scientists, and clinicians with a common objective of using tomorrow’s technologies for today’s hearing aid technology and implantation developments. We aim to provide a platform for discussion on basic challenges faced when considering translation of novel procedures and technology into clinical practice, to share latest research and thoughts on future implant trends, and to uphold research activities in this area. We encourage contributions describing innovative works in the realm of hearing aids and their surgical implantation. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Review of hearing aids and implantation procedures, open challenges
  • Advanced imaging for planning and perioperative control and follow-up
  • Functional planning of implantation procedures
  • Image processing for surgery planning
  • Novel approaches for future implant generations
  • Smart sensors and instrumentation to aid implantation surgery
  • Image-guidance and robotic support for hearing aid implantation
  • Safety and efficacy issues
