The Importance of Physical Activity and Exercise among Older People

Call for Papers

Participation in physical activity and exercise interventions such as aerobic exercise and strength training can maintain quality of life, health, and physical function among older people in general and for the elderly with morbidities in particular.

Taking into account the detrimental effect of the aging process, inactivity levels in the modern world, and the environmental constraints for people with reduced physical abilities enhancement to increase possibility of physical activity should be a target. However, many people do not engage in regular exercise and are therefore missing the opportunity to achieve significant physical and mental health benefits. Despite the strong evidence regarding the positive effects of exercise, older people are less likely to meet the public health recommendations, and research has reported that low exercise adherence is common among older people.

Physical activity and exercise play an important role in the primary and secondary prevention, in the management of the diseases, and in rehabilitation.

Promoting exercise among the older population is an important public health and clinical issue. A core issue is how to get older people with comorbidities to exercise.
