Recent Development in Production and Biotechnological Application of Microbial Enzymes

Call for Papers

Although the applications of some enzymes are already well established in some areas, recent advances in modern biotechnology have revolutionized the development of new molecules. Enzymes of plant, animal, and microbial origin have been commercially exploited; however, a large fraction of successfully commercialized ones are those derived from microbes. Microbes are relatively easier sources than plants and animals, and their enzyme productivity can be improved using genetic modification techniques. Advances in production and extraction techniques will allow fulfilment of increasing demand of robust and economical biocatalysts. This special issue will present the latest findings of studies on the production, molecular structure, gene and protein engineering, and biotechnological application of bacterial enzymes. This includes biological modifications, functional properties, and success stories of enzymes which have reached the market.

The special issue will contain a collection of papers written by authors who are leading experts in this field that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the microbial enzymes diversity, to develop new technologies that can lead to potential biotechnological developments, and also to use the microbial enzymes in different areas of bioindustry. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Industrial enzyme application
  • New microbial enzyme development
  • Structural and functional characterizations of bacterial enzymes
  • Low cost media for enzyme production
  • Statistical tools for optimization of media or process for large scale enzyme production
  • Innovations in engineering techniques for improving enzyme productivity and stability
  • Enzyme success stories: From laboratory to market

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at according to the following timetable:
