Biotechnological Application for Enhancement of Biofuel Production

Call for Papers

At present, the world is facing twin problems of oil depletion and global warming. These crises have promoted the scientific societies to look for sustainable and renewable resources as an alternative to meet the energy demand without affecting food security. More attention has been paid to the development of the biofuels technology to synthesize sustainable clean energy from renewable resources and investigation of ecofriendly alternative chemicals that are biosynthesized and degraded with zero toxic emissions. The agroindustrial wastes of lignocellulosic materials are generated in huge amounts and considered as renewable-resources. These wastes are valuable resources for carbohydrates and nutrients. Most of these wastes can be used as a nutrient source for industrial fermentation such as biofuels and others chemicals. Most of nonpathogen microorganisms are utilized in biofuels technology. The industrial production of hydrogen, ethanol, butanol, and isopropanol or solvents by fermentation from renewable and sustainable resources was recently renewed with great optimism worldwide. Hydrogen, methane, biodiesel, and bioelectricity are very promising alternative energy sources and have received more attention all over the world in recent years. With the advancement of recombinant DNA engineering and the genome editing (CRISPR/Cas9, TALENT, etc.) methods, the microorganisms can be designed and tailored for generation of valuable and profitable biofuel and bioelectricity for application in daily life. Therefore, this special issue will be published to cover the current and applied research, review articles, and the state of the art of biotechnological application for enhancement of biofuel production.

  • Bioelectricity, biohydrogen, and microbial fuel cell
  • Microbial enzymes and biomass conversion
  • Sewage sludge and fermentations
  • Functional genomics
  • Microorganism, genetic, and metabolic engineering to upscale biofuels
