The sum of the L2-norm of every velocity vector along the PIV plane in the simulation versus the weight on the PIV data term in the functional. Slightly lower velocities are predicted by the simulation if the PIV data are not assimilated ( ), and including the PIV data gives slightly higher velocities. These higher velocities are partially due to high-frequency noise in the PIV data.
