Translational Bioinformatics and Computational Systems Medicine

Description

Recent advances in the life sciences and medical research promote the generation of a number of new disciplines. Among them, Translational Bioinformatics (TBs) is the creation and development of information and computation technologies for analyzing biomedical data series, whereas Computational Systems Medicine (CSM) utilizes ‘systems’ approaches to solve medical problems such as integrating and predicting disease and therapy. Since biological systems have both complex structures and dynamics, the study of CSM must be based on results generated by information integration and analysis methods and will also lead to the deeper understanding, on the ‘systems’ level, of TB. It is well known that these rapidly expanding issues are driven by the increasing availability of massive amounts of biological and medical data, and their development needs an integration of mathematical models, statistical methods, and computer algorithms.

This special issue will focus on the new methodologies and technologies of TB, as well as related medical applications in complex biosystems. The special issue will become an international forum for researchers to present research findings and state-of-the-art solutions in this interdisciplinary field. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Translational bioinformatics:
    • Computational modeling and data integration in biomedical research
    • High-throughput data analysis in biomedical research
    • High-performance computing in biomedical research
    • Advanced methods for biomedical signal processing and biomedical image analysis
    • Text mining and natural language processing and their applications in biomedical research
  • Computational systems medicine:
    • Systems biology of complex disease
    • Complex biological network modeling
    • Complex biological systems simulation and visualization in medicine

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/cmmm/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
