Fractionation of an Extract of Pluchea odorata Separates a Property Indicative for the Induction of Cell Plasticity from One That Inhibits a Neoplastic Phenotype

(a) Induction of apoptosis; 1 × 105 HL60 cells/mL were seeded in 24-well plates and incubated with 2 and/or 10 μg/mL of F4.6.3 for 8, 24, and 48 h or (b) 2 and 5 μg/mL of F5.6.3.1–F5.6.3.6 for 24 h. Then, cells were double stained with Hoechst 33258 and propidium iodide and examined under the microscope with UV light connected to a DAPI filter. Nuclei with morphological changes which indicated cell death were counted, and the percentages of dead cells were calculated. Experiments were performed in triplicate. Asterisks indicate significance compared to untreated control ( ), and error bars indicate ±SD.
