Electroacupuncture Reduces Cocaine-Induced Seizures and Mortality in Mice

Effects of the dopamine D3 receptor antagonist, SB-277011-A, on the anticonvulsant effects of EA. SB-277011-A (30 mg/kg) was administered subcutaneously 30 min prior to the control restraining procedure or EA treatment. EA (50 Hz) was applied for 15 min to the GV14 and GV20 acupoints prior to cocaine injection. After the restraining procedure or EA treatment, all animals received an intraperitoneal injection of cocaine (75 mg/kg). Seizure severity was measured by the Itzhak five-stage scale [18]. Between-group comparisons for each group were performed by one-way ANOVA, followed by Tukey’s test (* ; n: the number of animals).
