Metabolomic Study of Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Rats and the Interventional Effects of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang, a Traditional Chinese Medicine

Figure 1

(a) Time schedule for CIA immunization, pathogenesis, peak incidence, drug administration, and sample collection for examinations. Wistar rats were immunized with bovine type II collagen with incomplete Freund’s adjuvant and randomly divided into normal control, model, dexamethasone (0.05 mg/kg), HLJDT (270 mg/kg), and its 13-component groups on the day of arthritis onset (day 0, ). (b) Hind paw volumes of each rat were evaluated every 4 days. Oral treatment of CIA rats with dexamethasone (0.05 mg/kg), HLJDT (270 mg/kg), and its components daily significantly ameliorated the severity and development of arthritis from day 16 ( versus model control). (c) Arthritis was scored every 2 days. Oral treatment of CIA rats with dexamethasone (0.05 mg/kg), HLJDT (270 mg/kg), and its components daily significantly reduced arthritis from day 16 ( , , and versus model group, resp.). NG, normal control group; MG, model group; DG, dexamethasone group; HG, HLJDT group; CG, components group.
