Effects of H/R on apoptosis in H9c2 cardiomyocytes. H9c2 cardiomyocytes were exposed to 6 h of hypoxia followed by 24 h of reoxygenation. Then, the caspase-3 activity (units per microgram of protein) was assayed, as described in Section 2, at 0, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 h after reoxygenation (a). Hoechst 33342 and PI double staining were also used in the qualitative and quantitative analyses of the apoptotic cells (b and c).
