Effect of parthenolide on tubercles of S. mansoni male worms. The quantification of the number of tubercles was performed using confocal microscopy. Indicated are numbers of intact tubercles and these numbers were measured in a 20,000 μm² of area calculated with the Zeiss LSM Image Browser software. Praziquantel (PZQ, 5 μM) was used as positive control. A minimum of three tegument areas of each parasite were assessed.
