Liensinine and Nuciferine, Bioactive Components of Nelumbo nucifera, Inhibit the Growth of Breast Cancer Cells and Breast Cancer-Associated Bone Loss
Liensinine and nuciferine induced apoptosis and inhibited the proliferation in breast cancer cells. MDA-MB-231 or MCF-7 cells were treated with various concentrations of liensinine and nuciferine in serum-free media for 24 h. (a) Apoptosis and necrosis were evaluated with Cell Death Detection ELISA to detect DNA fragments in culture supernatants and cells lysates. (b) The amount of newly synthesized DNA was assessed by BrdU incorporation assay. (c) The cells were fixed and stained with propidium iodide. The cell cycle distribution was analyzed by flow cytometry. Data are expressed as the mean ± SE. and versus untreated cells.
