(a) Normal control rats had normal livers whose hepatic lobules had a uniform pattern of polyhedral hepatocytes radiating from the central vein (CV) towards the periphery. (b) Diabetic control rats showed disrupted arrangement of hepatocytes around the CV, congestion in the CV, degeneration of hepatocytes at the peripheral area of the central vein, and massive vacuolization in the lobules. (c–f) Glibenclamide- and GP-treated rats showed a remarkable degree of preservation of the cellular arrangement with only mild vacuolization in the lobules.
