The fragmentation patterns of furostan saponins (type III), taking purpureagitoside as the example: the ion at m/z 1229 was the molecular ion [M-H]−, the fragmentation at m/z 1211 indicated a loss of 18 Da (H2O) on the basis of the parent ion, the fragment ions m/z 431 displayed the loss of sugar group, the fragment ion (m/z 289) was formed by the cleavage of the E-ring on the basis of the fragment ion (m/z 431), and the fragment ions (m/z 271 and 253) were obtained by a loss of 18 Da (H2O) or Da (H2O) on the basis of the fragment ion (m/z 289).
