Aboriginal Bacterial Flora in the Uricase-Deficient Rat Gut is Not the Main Factor Affecting Serum Uric Acid

Uric acid in urine and stool excreted by the male Uox-/- rats treated with antibiotics for 5 days (mean + SD, n = 6). When treated with the combination of antibiotics for 5 days, the rats excreted more uric acid in their urine (a, c), but without reaching statistical significance; however, they significantly excreted more uric acid in stool at both concentration (b) and amount (d) levels in 24 h.
