Herbal Medicines and Natural Products for Genitourinary Cancer Treatment

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Genitourinary (GU) cancers account for 30% of all cancers in men. These cancers are one of the most common cancer diseases worldwide. Prostate cancer accounts for 20% of all cancers. In general, bladder and kidney cancers are common cancers in men. Meanwhile, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men. The high incidence of GU cancer has generated a great interest in the pharmacotherapy of GU cancer.

Treatment of genitourinary cancer is primarily based on combinative therapeutic approaches to overcome the limitations upon single agent-based therapeutic strategies. Nutraceuticals and complementary treatments are gaining popularity as they can treat various cancers due to numerous useful effects. There has been strong evidence that herbal medicines and natural products are vital for the management of genitourinary cancer in terms of improving treatment outcomes. Moreover, these products are able to reduce the severe cytotoxic side effects of chemotherapy, which is one of the major limitations of all cancer therapies (including GU). Further research in this field will help improve the availability of therapeutic approaches for cancer patients. Further studies are needed to understand how we can strengthen antitumoral responses, ameliorate disease prognosis and patient outcomes.

The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together original research and review articles discussing herbal medicine and natural products for the management of genitourinary cancers. Submissions should also discuss the use of these products for genitourinary cancer treatment.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Herbal medicines and natural products for prostate cancer treatment
  • Herbal medicines and natural products as chemotherapeutic agents in bladder cancer
  • Herbal medicines and natural products in testicular cancer
  • Herbal medicines and natural products in penile cancer
  • Herbal medicines and natural products in adrenocarcinoma
  • Natural products and conventional therapeutic approaches as anticancer agents for genitourinary cancer
