Evidence Based Alternative Medicines in Pain Management

Description

Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. It involves a psychological component which can change its perception and undergo integration in higher centers especially in the brain. Pain may be acute or chronic, but, in both conditions, it badly affects the quality of life of affected peoples. A variety of therapeutic options are available in the form of synthetic agents for the management of pain, but they are suffering from various unwanted side effects. For this reason, natural healing agents are gaining interest in the discovery of effective molecules with considerable safety.

In this special issue, we invite authors to submit potential original research (basic as well as clinical findings) and review articles to discover therapeutic solutions for different problems related to different painful conditions.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • In vitro and in vivo studies to the therapeutic potential of alternative medicines on pain
  • Secondary metabolites in the treatment of pain
  • Underlying mechanisms of tested alternative medicines on pain
  • Patients’ compliance to alternative medicines in the treatment of pain (clinical trials especially randomized controlled clinical trials)
