Seismological and Hydrogeological Controls on New Zealand-Wide Groundwater Level Changes Induced by the 2016 Mw 7.8 Kaikōura Earthquake

Figure 8

A cross section of the Kaikōura earthquake-induced (a) groundwater level changes, (b) maximum PGV and horizontal (geometric mean) PGA, and (c) mean static stress changes (). Locations of interest are (i) Cromwell Gorge monitoring wells, (ii) earthquake epicentre, (iii) Marlborough region, (iv) Cook Strait, (v) Wellington, (vi) Manawatu-Wanganui, and (vii) Hawkes Bay regions. The cross section goes through the Kaikōura surface rupture zone and the majority of monitoring wells.
