Colitides

Description

Colitides are a diverse set of inflammatory disorders of the colon that range in severity, anatomic involvement, and etiology. The term colitide, when excluding inflammatory bowel disease, can originate from infectious, noninfectious, or idiopathic etiologies. While the incidence of these disorders has increased in recent years with more immunosuppressed patients and greater prevalence of antibiotic use, colitides remain understudied as a group and effective options for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention for many of these disorders continue to be limited.

We are interested in original papers and reviews, examining the role of different diagnostic and treatment modalities for colitides. Papers focused on changes in epidemiology or understanding of pathogenesis of one or more of these disorders are also welcomed. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in treatment and diagnosis of Clostridium difficile colitis, including use of fecal transplantation
  • Changes in the epidemiology of infectious colitis including food-borne illnesses and sexually transmitted proctitides
  • Current perceptions in the pathogenesis of optimal treatment of microscopic colitis (collagenous and lymphocytic colitis)
  • Cytomegalovirus in transplant, oncology, or other immunosuppressed patients
  • Unusual types of colitides, including chemical-induced/medication-induced colitis, radiation proctitis, and eosinophilic colitis
  • Medical treatment versus surgical treatment of subacute ischemic colitis
  • Diagnostic challenges in the patient with acute colitis

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/grp/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
