Fundamentals and Applications of Analytical Chemistry in Natural Products

Description

Natural Products isolated from plants or marine organisms have gained increased attention for researchers in recent years. The enormous biological and chemical diversity in nature as well as the rapid improvement of several analytical techniques has shown that huge potential still rests in these rich sources. With special regard to therapeutic agents, for instance, several new natural products have demonstrated promising activities against the most varied of human diseases. Still, the characterization of such complex extracts, the structure elucidation of new natural products, and the identification as well as the mechanistic comprehension of such underlying activities are a challenging analytical process. Therefore, further development of methodologies and analytical tools for the characterization of new Natural Products is a continuous necessity.

As guest editors, we invite investigators to submit original research articles and reviews that will stimulate the rising efforts in research of natural products and elucidation of underlying bioactivities. We are especially interested in articles related to natural products derived from plants with bioactive potential describing innovative analytical methods and techniques. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Recent advances in characterization of complex plant extracts
  • Isolation, structure elucidation of new natural compounds, and synthesis of derivatives
  • Analytical quality control of natural products
  • Latest developments in mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy especially in relation to natural product structural elucidation
  • New hyphenated chromatographic, spectrometric, and spectroscopic techniques with application to natural products
  • Mass spectrometry imaging for evaluation of bioactive natural molecules in situ
  • Fragmentation mechanisms of isolated natural compounds
  • Analytical procedures for the analysis of natural products in biological samples

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ijac/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
