Schematic presentation of NEP localization and functional activity in the brain. NEP being localised pre- and postsynaptically in neuronal cells cleaves its neuropeptide substrates (including A) terminating their properties and as such regulating cellular response to their action and neuronal functions. In the case of A, NEP also prevents accumulation and aggregation of toxic amyloid oligomers. All symbols are explained in the figure.
