Schematic presentation of NEP localization and functional activity in the brain. NEP being localised pre- and postsynaptically in neuronal cells cleaves its neuropeptide substrates (including A ) terminating their properties and as such regulating cellular response to their action and neuronal functions. In the case of A , NEP also prevents accumulation and aggregation of toxic amyloid oligomers. All symbols are explained in the figure.
