Array gain as a function of the electrical separation (𝑑/𝜆) between the elements of the nine-dipole planar array for a signal arriving from 𝜙=0^∘ and 𝜃=45^∘ using the various mutual coupling compensation methods. Maximum gain is achieved for 𝑑/𝜆<0.25 using the full-wave and receiving mutual impedance methods (RMI). The performance of the two methods degrades as frequency increases. The RMI method is slightly superior to the full-wave method for the plotted frequencies. For 𝑑/𝜆>0.35, the open-circuit method is superior to all the other methods.
