Advances in Massive MIMO Antenna Design, Channel Modeling, and System Technologies

Call for Papers

Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), also called as very-large MIMO, is a very interesting research field in both propagation and communication theory recently. It provides an effective means to significantly increase the capacity of cellular communication systems while possibly reducing their energy consumption. Due to the constraint in array aperture, very-large MIMO antenna arrays are expected to be implemented in a 2-dimensional (2D) or 3-dimensional (3D) array structure, instead of the conventional linear array. Not only the academic but also the industry has paid enough attention to the advances in massive MIMO including theory, systems, and implementation. Knowledge and understanding of the large antenna array design and realistic propagation environments may well lead to the system design and development of massive MIMO networks.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles and survey articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the antenna design, array structuring, propagation channel measurement, characterization and modeling, and effects of massive MIMO system design. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Channel measurement for massive MIMO systems
  • Channel sounding technologies and platform constructions for massive MIMO systems
  • High-resolution and robust parameter extraction techniques for 3D channel characterization
  • Impact of measurement equipment on the effectiveness of 3D channel models
  • Propagation and channel modeling for massive MIMO systems
  • Deterministic and stochastic models of 3D channels
  • High-performance and efficient simulation techniques for massive MIMO channels
  • Optimization of 3D ray tracing for massive MIMO channels
  • Characterization and modeling of real-world 3D MIMO channel
  • Experimental systems and field test of massive MIMO channel emulator
  • Effects of massive MIMO/3D MIMO channels
  • Parameter estimation of massive MIMO/3D MIMO channels
  • Modeling of massive MIMO antenna arrays
  • Efficient signal processing algorithms for massive MIMO systems
