Error bars indicate standard deviations over the spatial ROI in each time frame, thus capturing all sources of variation due to (primarily) actual spatial variability, noise, and numerics. Legends explain the various graphs. Notice the strong correlation between the extrinsic (polar system related) and instrinsic (eigensystem related) strains. (In the eigensystem, shear strain vanishes identically.)
