Closed Contour Specular Reflection Segmentation in Laparoscopic Images

Two regions of interest show reflections of Types 1, 2, and 3. Both images are taken from laparoscopic sequences of the liver. Segmentation is performed using the hybrid contour thresholding algorithm.

(a) The brighter specular reflections in this image are of Type 2. The weak, small reflections are of Type 3 and are segmented using closed contours

(b) In the lower part of the image, a large reflection of Type 1 can be observed. The three reflections in the upper left are of Type 2. The small, weak reflection is of Type 3
