Functional Hydrogels for Biomedical Engineering

Call for Papers

Hydrogels are three-dimensional, crosslinked networks of hydrophilic polymers able to absorb and retain water. Due to their hydrated environment and tunable properties, hydrogels have been intensively studied and widely used in tissue engineering, controlled drug delivery, and wound healing.

Among them, functional hydrogels engineered by modern fabrication technologies result in a variety of biofunctional materials with versatile surface effects, finding great potential in various applications. In particular, with the growing need from biomedical engineering, (1) development of novel functional hydrogels (especially stimuli-responsive hydrogels) with desired characters is highly necessary and (2) interactions between living cells/human organs and functional hydrogels need to be further addressed and clarified.

Therefore, the editors are pleased to launch this special issue and invite scientists to contribute their reviews and original research papers in the field of functional hydrogels for biomedical engineering.
