Advances in Sustainable Technologies to Prevent Water and Soil Pollution

Call for Papers

The development of the industry and the intensive agriculture, which was necessary to supply food to an increasing global population, have caused a very serious damage to the environment in terms of starting to run out of resources and pollution. Among the environmental problems, pollution of water and soils and waste disposal are one of the most important.

In this context, efforts in research and innovation have to lead toward a green economy through the development of new and sustainable technologies in the production process to achieve water efficiency, waste reuse, and reduction of pollutants in order to protect soil and water quality and to ensure the sustainable manage of resources.

This special issue pretends to be a forum for the discussion about the progress achieved toward a “green” society and economy and the challenges facing this field. Papers submitted should present recent advances and new approaches on the application of sustainable technologies for environmental hazard mitigation, especially those related to pollution control and resources recovery. Peer-reviewed original research articles covering the application of new and sustainable environmental strategies will be primary consideration. Likewise, the critical review articles will be welcome, which describe the current state of the art, mainly those dealing with the guidelines and main strategies adopted for worldwide governments for facing these environmental issues in the production process.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Soil and water pollution: worldwide comparison of legal frameworks and strategies
  • Sustainable remediation technologies of soils polluted by heavy metals and organic compounds
  • Biochar production and development for soil restoration, water treatment, and sustainable energy
  • Current policies and practices for water reuse around the world
  • Green chemical technologies for industrial and urban waste water treatment and management
  • Conversion of organic wastes into effective adsorbents for wastewater treatment
  • New green strategies for reducing point source contamination by pesticides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)
  • Chemical methods for predicting toxicity of pollutants as a strategy for a sustainable processing and production
