Security and Quality of Multimedia Communications

Call for Papers

Interest in new multimedia services has rapidly increased over last decade; it evokes demand for more efficient compression techniques, which leads to need to develop new compression standards. The compression together with transmission link imperfection is two major factors influencing quality of multimedia. Speech and video quality can be affected by security measures as well. We can imagine various steganography techniques applied and directly influencing overall quality or on the other hand security layers causing higher bandwidth requirements.

The objective of this special issue is to present recent advances in security and quality of multimedia communications (SQMC) relating to theoretical and practical aspects. It includes challenges in the security of multimedia such as watermarking techniques in video or steganography in audio and new approaches and progress in speech and video quality assessment. Also articles concerning modelling and simulation and processing of multimedia transmissions in various environments are expected.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Security issues of multimedia communications
  • Watermarking
  • Robustness and availability of audiovisual services
  • Covert data channels in multimedia transmissions
  • Audio/video quality of service
  • Audio/video quality of experience
  • Monitoring and performance evaluation
  • Audio/video traffic engineering
  • Modelling and simulation of multimedia transmissions
  • Real-time video processing algorithms
  • Algorithms for massive video data analysis
  • Video analysis and tracking
