Disease of Adrenal Glands

Call for Papers

Adrenal glands are composed of two distinct endocrine systems (cortex and medulla) with separate embryonic origins and hormone production (cortisol, aldosterone, androgens, and neurotransmitters such as epinephrine and norepinephrine); the adrenal cortex is regulated by neuroendocrine hormones secreted from the pituitary-hypothalamus axis as well as by the renin-angiotensin system, the adrenal medulla is regulated by adrenergic tone, and these two endocrine systems are involved in homeostasis of physiological functions.

Several acquired adrenal diseases are characterized by signs and symptoms resulting from overproduction of hormones, such as hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s adenoma), hypercortisolism (Cushing’s syndrome), and hypercatecholamine (pheochromocytoma). Incidentally discovered lesions of adrenal gland represent a frequent and interesting challenge for physicians, due to specific diagnostic challenges.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the clinical relevance, molecular pathology underlying adrenal gland diseases, the development of strategies to diagnose and treat these conditions, and the evaluation of outcomes.

In recent years, several molecular mechanisms were identified in the pathophysiological development of adrenal dysfunctions, as well as in their genetic basis.

We are particularly interested in articles describing the physiopathological aspects and systemic involvement of hormonal dysfunction due to adrenal diseases and advances in molecular genetics and molecular diagnostics. Potential topics include, but not limited to:

  • Recent developments in diagnosis and management of adrenal gland diseases
  • Advances in genetics of adrenal gland diseases
  • Latest technologies for clinical evaluation and measuring outcomes
  • Role of adrenal hormones in metabolic dysfunction

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Authors Guidelines, which are located at Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at according to the following timetable:
