Identification of Putative Ortholog Gene Blocks Involved in Gestant and Lactating Mammary Gland Development: A Rodent Cross-Species Microarray Transcriptomics Approach

Figure 5

Validation of differentially expressed genes identified by microarray using qRT-PCR. Quantitative real-time-PCR was performed as in Experimental Procedures, and the calculated mean log ratio for each gene in their corresponding developmental stage was compared with the mean z-score from the microarray analysis during that same period. A positive value indicates a greater mRNA abundance in a developmental stage than in the control group, whereas a negative value indicates a lower mRNA abundance in a developmental stage than in the control group. Lines represent data obtained by qRT-PCR (red, right axis) and microarray analysis (blue, left axis), respectively, whereas the x-axis represents the physiological time point. The average fold change relative to time-matched virgin controls for three animals per group is shown. Genes are indicated by their official gene symbols. Data are presented as the mean of three independent experiments, each performed in triplicate. Error bars represent the SD for the average fold change. The correlation information in each analysis is indicated by Spearman rho value ( ). All 18 pairs of genes had an absolute correlation value of with a . ND: not detected.
