Remote Detection of the Electric Field Change Induced at the Seismic Wave Front from the Start of Fault Rupturing

A map showing observation sites of two electric fields (○) at Hasaki and Chikura, a strong-motion seismometer at Choshi of the K-NET (∆), and the epicenter (E1) of the earthquake on 14 June 2002, and E2 on 16 October 2002. The electric field observations were conducted by the use of the 805 m borehole antenna at Hasaki and the 850 m borehole antenna at Chikura to measure the vertical component of the electric field. Similar electric observations have been conducted in the central part of Japan at 11 sites [2527].
