Corneal cells communicate with neutrophils leading to the production of IP-10 during ex vivo incubation of human corneas. 4 mm corneal buttons from human donor tissue were incubated in 500 μL serum-free media at 37°C, 5% CO2 for 24 h. Where indicated corneal buttons were incubated in the presence of neutrophils and/or HSV-1 at a M.O.I. = 1. Cell controls were included to monitor IP-10 production in the absence of corneal tissue. IP-10 levels are shown as pg/mL of sample.
