Potential Anticancer Plant Extracts and Phytoconstituents

Call for Papers

Cancer, a generic term for a large group of diseases with common names like malignant tumours and neoplasms, can affect almost any part of the body. Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally and accounted for 8.8 million deaths in 2015. The most common types of cancer in men include lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach, and liver cancer while breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, and stomach cancer are the most common in women as reported by WHO. To attenuate deaths caused due to cancer, action is needed for the improvement of cancer-care and cancer-treatment practices.

Traditionally natural products and their related moieties have played prominent role in drug discovery. Anticancer natural products that are, or are intended to be, used as pharmaceuticals are focused on. Current lead-discovery strategies have led to a renewed interest in natural products in drug discovery and development.

The aims and the scope for this Special Issue are to focus on the potential anticancer plant extracts and the pure phytoconstituents. We encourage submissions that evaluate the cellular interactions of the extract/substance in detail. These include adequate concentration series, the assessment of different metabolic pathways, and cellular parameters as well as the control with normal, healthy cells. Please note that the origin or the isolation of the substance has to be specifically described.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Anticancer evaluation of medicinal plant extracts
  • Isolation and anticancer evaluation of phytoconstituents from medicinal plants
  • Accurate description of isolation procedures of active botanicals
  • Cellular interactions of the anticancer plant extracts in detail
  • Assessment of different metabolic pathways and cellular parameters
